Kong Nay at BBC Wales

Welcome to Wales! Look at those signs in Welsh! Aren’t they cool?

Six days into the journey, we got an invitation from BBC Radio Wales in Cardiff to do a live interview on one of their afternoon shows. The scheduled appointment happened to be on the exact same day as our first Wales show in Swansea.

Just like in previous interviews, everything went fine. Our host Allan Thompson and his crew were very friendly, likable, and warm. Allan knew well what to ask and how to engage me, Master Kong Nay and Savy throughout the whole interview.

Wondering how everything went? Check it out!

  1. Looks like you are having a blast!!!! Keep posting.

  2. I am… :) How’s everything up there Clare? Still in the US? Too bad we missed each other. Hope we can meet sometimes.

  3. Great interview… Haha, funny the way you translate, Mongkol. You must have done a lot of background research, though… Wow, I like the Rom Vong song…

  4. Wow, Mongkol, you did a good job as the translater.
Your voice is amazing! don’t you want to be a dj in the future?

    Two thumbs up ! :D

  5. Great job, brother! Thanks God to save spiritual Khmer art. Japei is my favorite one. I love it so much esp. Ramvong song. I was told that Japei is the root of Khmer poem and song. That probably the reason of all songs and poems can be sung in the form of Japei. Pls keep sharing us!

  6. Master Kong Nay is now becoming the well-known !!! Master Mongkol is also… :) Hey, I’m proud of you, that’s the great chance to be there…

  7. Hey, I like the way Master Kong Nay smile. he brings the joy to the world.

Ya know that Japei is one of my most favorite. Anyway, I’m very proud of you bro Monkol. Good done!

  8. Great job, Mongkol. It’s hard to find an understanding translator like you. Kong Nai is really nice and friendly. He looks like an American musician with his guitar and sitting style. I love the song so much. His voice is so beautiful in the Khmer way. He is really famous, last month in D.C. and this month in UK.

  9. ពិតជាអស្ចារ្យមែនបងមង្គល ពូកែបកប្រែមែន។ និយាយអញ្ចឹងនេះជាលើកទីមួយហើយដែលខ្ញុំបានលើសំលេងរបស់បង។

  10. I heard your interview on BBC on NPR on my ride home. I have been reading this journal for months (I was looking for Khmer food in lowell) and it was so nice to randomly come across you on the radio!

  11. Eager for an update mate! How was WOMAD? Brilliant hearing you on the BBC. You are a natural. Cheers.

  13. Congratulations! Great to see familiar faces in new places!
(BTW, I’d be careful with that V-sign – in England if you use the back of your hand, its a rude gesture. Not to worry – many foreigners (even the US President) made the same mistake!)

  14. Please don’t use the US President as a guide for whats wrong and right though!!!! D

  15. Would love to meet you someday. :) Till then, keep blogging. :)

  16. thank for sharing – it’s fantastic to hear him sing. i wonder if one day we could hear his voice on the background of a movie ..
